Throughout their lives, our children are susceptible to threats to their general
health and well-being by way of the gut. Children are sociable creatures; they share,
kiss and hold hands not knowing it may be unhealthy. As parents we bear the emotional,
financial and physical impact when our children do not feel well. We miss work and
lose sleep caring for them. So keeping them healthy benefits all of us.
The human gut is home to millions of beneficial bacteria. These beneficial bacteria
are an integral part of maintaining good health. The gut serves as a barrier to
monitor and seal off our interior from unwelcome intruders. This is called “gut
barrier function.” Indigenous bacteria are an essential part of a healthy gut barrier
function.
The human gut gets bombarded daily by allergens, pollutants, chemicals and unwelcome
intruders through our environment, food and drink. In addition, sickness, certain
kinds of medicine, changes in eating habits or plain old stress can upset the balance
of our gut microbiota and give unwelcome intruders an opportunity to thrive. It
is up to the gut to make sure they do not penetrate the body where they can cause
problems.
In order for toddlers to be able defend themselves against unwelcome intruders and
to thrive, they need to be equipped with the right microbes. We can make sure our
toddler’s get access to these beneficial microbes by giving them BioGaia. By fortifying
the gut with BioGaia’s L. reuteri, we can promote good health and our toddlers
ability to withstand the daily threats their guts encounter.
